SkyGuru FAQ

Question:
How does the app work if there is no wi-fi signal on board?
Answer:
Here is how it works: before your flight, when you still have wi-fi network, enter your flight details (airline prefix and flight number). All the necessary information about your flight gets uploaded to your device: weather forecast, route maps, your flight history, and a lot more. Then, based on the weather forecast, winds, etc., a mathematical model of your specific flight is created. Once on board, turn the flight mode on. Using iPhone sensors the app would know when we the takeoff is. The mathematical model is adjusted according to the actual departure time. Then the iPhone sensors help identify what is happening at every stage and SkyGuru is commenting on every process during the entire flight.
Question:
But they always ask to turn off the phones at takeoff and landing!
Answer:
Most airlines today allow using your phone in flight mode during the whole flight, including takeoff and landing. It is officially approved by the American and European aviation authorities, FAA and EASA. There are still a few airlines that insist on turning your devices off completely. However, these are just old-schoolers.
Question:
How is the weather forecast uploaded in real-time, if no wi-fi is available?
Answer:
We use professional aviation weather forecast that is valid for 18 hours. Of course, the more time passes from the time of the forecast, the less accurate that information becomes. Yet, it is still the most accurate information which is available at the time of your departure. At least, what the pilot knows and what SkyGuru knows at the time of departure is identical.
Question:
I am flying next week. The app cannot find my flight number. I want my money back.
Answer:
You should enter your flight details not earlier than 24 hours before your trip.
Question:
I am entering my flight information before my flight, but it still cannot be found.
Answer:
SkyGuru doesn't work yet with charter flights. Also, some new regular flights, if they are not yet in the regular flights data base, some times may not be found.
Question:
What to do if my flight is not found?
Answer:
You can find another flight going to your destination on the same day and departing a little bit earlier than your original flight. When the app asks, whether your departure time has been moved, enter the departure time of your actual flight. The accuracy of the app will be a bit lower, but this is better than nothing! SkyGuru doesn't work yet with charter flights. Also, some new regular flights, if they are not yet in the regular flights data base, some times may not be found.
Question:
It says in the app that you can only fly with it 10 times. The App Store doesn't have this information. I've been cheated!
Answer:
This restriction will only be valid for those who will download the lite version later on. You are the first lucky users of the app and will be able to use SkyGuru without any restrictions.
Question:
I turned on the app. It doesn't show anything besides the departure and arrival times.
Answer:
The app starts sending detailed information about an hour before your departure. Before that it only gives you a few general tips for your trip.
Question:
Why is the time of arrival different in the app and on my ticket?
Answer:
The time on the ticket is average with extra lag time. SkyGuru calculates the actual route, wind, taxi time, anti-freezing procedure, and a lot more.
Question:
I am on board of the aircraft. Before takeoff I took the phone in my hand / I walked down the aisle / the phone fell down… and the app is now incorrectly showing that we are taxiing. What do I do?
Answer:
Click on three dots "…" in the message line and choose the correct current stage manually.
Question:
Do I have to change the stages of the flight manually to read the explanations?
Answer:
No, the app recognizes all the stages by itself. In case of an error (for example, you have been descending for 3 minutes now, but the app hasn't notified you yet), choose the stage manually by clicking on three dots "…" in the message line.
Question:
Will you have the Android-version?
Answer:
Yes. It is planned to be released in 2017.
Question:
Why is it so expensive?
Answer:
Here is the math: $6 goes to Apply. We have $14 left. Each flight that you request the information for costs us a little less than $1. If you have flown with the app 15 times, we have not made a penny. If you have flown 30 times, we pay our $. We have invested a lot of money, time and effort into creating this product. And any investment should be rewarded, don't you think? So, the app cannot cost any less than what it is. Soon we'll be releasing lite version with "pay-per-flight" option.
Question:
Is there a version in English available?
Answer:
Yes! At the moment SkyGuru is available in Russian, English, and Hebrew.
